Following Shabbat morning services, usually on the first and third Saturday of each month. Rabbi Meltzer leads us in study of various topics which may deal with the Torah portion of the week, current holidays, philosophical themes or just topics of interest. Each session has its own topic. Discussion starts at approximately 12:45 p.m.
The Synagogue's Book Club. Meets, with Rabbi Meltzer, approximately once a month. We read novels, histories, short stories, memoirs, etc. Our discussions are stimulating, and always, provide a good laugh as we try to figure out what the author was trying to say.
Meets on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m., late August - June. Different parts of the Talmud are discussed. This class follows discussions of the Rabbis from the Talmudic Period on issues of importance to them that led to the Rabbinic form of Judaism that we practice today. Rabbi Meltzer and members of the Synagogue help lead the discussions and explain the nuances in the arguments between the sages. Members of the class are often surprised by the positions taken and the tone of the arguments. A lively and fascinating class.
This class, which meets late August - June, on Wednesdays from 11:00 - 12:30, is studying the ``Wisdom of the Fathers.`` Led by Rabbi Meltzer, each week a different ``saying`` is read, studied and discussed. While the conversations are serious as we discover how these 2000 year old bits of wisdom still speak to life in the 21st Century, they always also provide an ``aha`` moment and fun.
Meets on Wednesdays from 2:00 - 3:00, late August - June. This class reads books in the Bible that comes after the ``First Five Books.`` Rabbi Meltzer leads the discussion of the meaning if the Book we are reading, how it fits in a Jewish context, why the Book is included in the Jewish Cannon, how it fits into the history of the time it was written, and why it is important for us today. We are currently reading the Book of Daniel.
